Choosing a China–Central Asia Road Freight Provider

2026-09-14

Choose a China–Central Asia road freight provider by comparing written proposals for the same cargo, collection points and final address. First establish who is responsible for each stage; then compare the complete quoted scope. A low headline price is difficult to assess while important services or cargo conditions remain unconfirmed.

Start with one brief and a clear service role

Send the same dated cargo brief to each provider. Ask who issues the quotation, who coordinates the shipment and which tasks belong to your supplier or receiver. For forwarding partnerships, identify the China-side work, cross-border road leg and destination handover separately. Record unresolved questions before choosing a proposal.

Use seven checks to make proposals comparable

For every row, record the responsible party and mark the cost as included, separate or unconfirmed. Ask for clarification rather than treating an empty answer as included. Also compare currency, quotation validity and the cargo assumptions used.

Comparison item Question to resolve in the proposal
1. Collection in China Does the supplier deliver to an agreed receiving point, or does the proposal include collection from each supplier address?
2. Consolidation and storage What happens if suppliers are ready on different dates? Identify waiting, storage and split-dispatch arrangements and charges.
3. Road transport Which FTL or LTL arrangement and handover points are proposed? Confirm any transfers and the basis of the transport charge.
4. Documents and customs coordination Who supplies and checks the required information? Identify coordination work and clarify duties and taxes separately.
5. Final delivery Does the scope end at a warehouse, terminal or the stated final address? Check access, receiving hours and receiver responsibilities.
6. Loading, unloading and equipment Who handles each loading or unloading operation? Identify packaging work, lifting equipment and other handling requirements.
7. Insurance, if requested What arrangement is proposed, under which terms and exclusions, and at what charge? Do not assume insurance is included in freight.

Ask for FTL and LTL options that fit the cargo

FTL uses a dedicated vehicle; road LTL shares capacity with compatible freight. Compare both against packaged dimensions, gross weight, stackability, cargo compatibility, readiness dates and receiving conditions. Neither a single package count nor a fixed weight threshold decides suitability.

If several suppliers are involved, state whether you can wait for consolidation or need separate dispatches. Ask how each option changes the scope and estimated schedule. A lower initial rate does not establish the lower total cost, and requested dates are planning requirements until arrangements are confirmed.

Resolve conditions before confirming transport

Ask how cargo changes, delays or delivery exceptions will be communicated and reassessed. Chemicals, dangerous goods, oversized equipment and transit through China need individual review with applicable supporting information. Submission of a complete brief does not itself confirm acceptance, a price or a dispatch date.
